Dr. Sadiq Sani is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of NETZENCE Sustainability Limited. In this interview, he speaks on how Nigeria can realise the global 2030 emission reduction target.
Can you tell us what this programme is all about?
My name is Dr. Sadiq Sani. I’m the founder, Chief Executive Officer of Netzence Sustainability Limited. Our goal is to see how we can work towards realizing the 2030 global emission reduction target, and then also the 2050 Net Zero target. Supporting the realization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Our goal is to showcase the first of a kind technology in the entire world where you can actually track, monitor carbon and retail and also provide value to the consumers at the end, this way, we will be supporting objectives in terms of the 2030 emission region target, 2050 little target, and then also the United Nation. SDGs.
That goal has always been there. What is this particular gathering all about and what do you intend to achieve with this particular gathering?
Yes, so from the review and a lot of experiment and case studies were conducted across Africa, most especially Ghana, Nigeria and Kenya, we’ve seen that data reliability, data authenticity, data auditability, and also in terms of the transparency has been major issues across Africa. So this technology has now been developed to resolve the problems in real time and also provide a much better trust and transparency in terms of the emission reduction across the entire African continent.
How would the technology help Nigeria?
Technology in Nigeria would definitely put us on the global map, one as the first country that has developed a technology that can monitor, track, and also be able to support the reduction of emissions in real time. And furthermore, as well, is in Nigeria, going forward, we are going to support the President Bola Ahmed Tunubu’s effort towards reducing emission, and also in terms of providing the NDC, that’s National Contribution of Nigeria in real time across the entire country. So, in this case, Nigeria will be the first country that will be able to showcase our NDC to the United Nations and every other intergovernmental organization across the world.
Now, zooming out from the technicalities to the Politics of Climate Change, there are some who say that in the entire message and messaging of climate change Africa is not in at that point it’s not mature enough to be able to adapt, even putting mitigation efforts against climate change, what is your take?
Yeah, I think a lot of people would ask, and again, I’m a representative of Netzence. And the company Netzence, we have a lot of doctorate degree holders and professors coming together to build solutions. So it’s always been people asking, oh, why are you guys not doing these in other countries? Why Africa? But it’s not a crime because we’re Nigerians. We’re proud to be Nigerians. So it’s not a crime if many of us had to come back from wherever we are to build solutions that will put us on the map. So we believe, with our technology, which we have in several times, conducted case studies across Africa, in terms of Nigeria, Ghana, and then also, we’re looking at Kenya now, and we’re going across the entire African countries. So we believe with this technology that provides real time visibility and also transparency to the system we have, and everyone can see the data in real time, and you can also see how remission is being reduced and emission can be avoided as well. So it is not all about reducing emission, the 2030, Reduction target, there’s emission, and we want to see how Africa can take a lead. And then, for once, we believe we have provided technology that would definitely support the entire communities in terms of reducing emission and also realizing the 2030 target, which is a major issue now.
We’ve seen climate change drought in a couple of weeks ago, it was raining in the UK, in summer. But a lot of things are really happening with the climate change, and we believe with our technology, we can going to have impact across the entire sectors, energy, telecommunications, finance, economy and a lot of that. We have conducted a lot of case studies. For example, we saw that some individuals living very close to facilities with high emissions tend to have more diseases and respiratory diseases, like asthma and a few others. And then the people living far away don’t really get to have much. So we are going to give technology now that will also support government towards understanding that this particular area actually needs this kind of solution, not malaria, but this is actually major problems they have. We’re going to provide that insight into real time to the entire community. Again, our solution is openly available to everyone, and everyone can see how emission is being reduced or avoided in real time.
Today, we are proud to announce that we have tracked in real time at the Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited, Kainji hydro power plant. This has never been done. This achievement is not only for us at Netzence but an achievement for all citizens of Nigeria.
